Aka It’s My Birthday Month, So Who Cares If I was Late In Posting This?

I accomplished a lot in January. From getting back into a workout routine, to graduating from the front-end portion of my class, January was a big month. There was also an influx of highly anticipated music literally on the last day of the month that knocked me out. So, I’m using that as an excuse as to why this is so late. Also, February Fakeout happened literally on the first day of February, so you can’t expect me to stay inside during that.

First: Louis Tomlinson’s debut album Walls.

I’ve been waiting for this for nearly four years, and it was worth it. Louis captured my heart after I heard the song “Home” by One Direction and learned that he wrote it. I heard “Home” for the first time when I was finally questioning my sexuality, and wasn’t ready to talk to anyone about it yet. Even though I know I have supportive people in my life, I didn’t have the words to verbalize what I was feeling. “Home” felt like a warm hug from someone I admired, telling me they loved me and saw me. Understood me. Long story short: “Home” is for the queers.

After that I became a big fan, and have anxiously followed his solo career. He’s had a lot of tragedy in his life, but has overcome it to thrive. His song “Two Of Us” captures how I feel about losing my dad. I can’t listen to it without tearing up and feeling an overwhelming wave of bittersweet love. The rest of his album is just as good, especially “Don’t Let It Break Your Heart”, and I would’ve put it all on my playlist, but I practiced restraint and only chose one. A bop, “Always You”, which is a little sonically separate from the rest of the album, but I love it too much to care.

Second: Kesha’s New Album

I. Love. Kesha. Every album, every song, flawless. “Gold Trans Am”? Hell yeah! “Praying”? Catch me sobbing! “Raising Hell”? Biiitch, I’m blessed! My friend Jos texted me the Tuesday before her new album dropped about her new song “Tonight”, and WHEW it! Is! So! Good! KESHA, of COURSE YOU CAN PUT YOUR WINE IN MY BACKPACK!!! YOU DON’T EVEN HAVE TO ASK!!!

Other Notable Songs

I mean, all of them? But I’ve been especially loving “5 Years Behind” by THICK, “Boogie Juice” by HalfNoise, “C-Side” by the incredible collab of Khruangbin and Leon Bridges, and “Bad Habit” by Your Smith, that I found thanks to the instagramer @libbylivingcolorfully.

But don’t take my word for it, listen to the playlist yourself! AND check out my year-to-date playlist while you’re at it. DOUBLE AND let me know any music recs you have! I’m always looking for new music to love and yell about!
