July Playlist and Goals

July 10, 2019
A picture of a big black dog on a colorful quilt, on a bed.

Okay, so I know we’re already into the second week of July, but forgive me. Last week was a bit of a blur of holiday, making sure Mag was safe and calm during fireworks and storms and cheering on the USWNT to win! I’m flying out to NYC tomorrow (hi Lena! And potentially Kelly and Colin!), so this is going to be sweet and to the point.

  1. Read/listen to 5 books. I’ve actually already gotten two done this month (and officially completed my 2019 Goodreads Reading Challenge!) and I want to keep the momentum going. I’m currently reading A Nearly Normal Family and listening to Girl, Wash Your Face, so I have a good duality going. My list of tbr (to be read) books is sky high, so I’m glad to be working through part of it!
  2. Sew 4 things. I actually am finishing up my third one today (yay sewing!), so I’ll definitely achieve this one. I’d love to make the Looper Quilt in the Queen size for my bed, so that’s going to be my big project when I get back from New York!
  3. Pack up all my decorative things + all my fabric. One of the reasons I’m trying to sew so much this month? I’m moving and I’d much rather haul completed garments and quilts up to my new apartment at the end of August than fabric to reorganize. These are two of the easiest things for me to pack (WHOOPS) so I’m giving myself a bit of a break with them.
  4. Organize my sewing stuff. Patterns, needles (both machine and hand), so. many. scissors. Pattern weights (HOW DID I GO THIS LONG WITHOUT PATTERN WEIGHTS), cutting mats. I have so many sewing items that need to be organized. For my new space I’m dreaming of a peg board situation, but I want to know what I’m working with before making any major decisions.
  5. Get ready for my coding academy. !!! Both in terms of just getting ready for the commute while waiting for the renovations on my apartment to be complete, and in terms of actual coding. I’m planning on adjusting to waking up early again and getting in a morning run with Mag and leaving the house for a few hours each day in the upcoming week to get her used to me being gone. I’m also planning on finishing the JavaScript mini-class my academy has so I’m used to the language (the one I struggle with the most, naturally it’s a building block of the internet #ofcourse).

The playlist I’ll listen to to get this all done

I’m seeing Carly Rae Jepsen tonight (be jealous), so of course I had to include one of her newest songs on my playlist. When I first listened to her album “Too Much” stood out to me straight away, and in combination with “Good Love”, it’s such a good jam.

Alex Cameron is eccentric and I love him so much. Go watch the music video for “Runnin’ Outta Luck” and just know that I dance exactly like him. His newest single, “Divorce”, has one of my favorite lines in any song I’ve heard this year. “I’ve got friends in Kansas City with a mother fucking futon couch!” It feels like a brag, but given the context of the song it definitely is not. But I can’t get over it. Also, don’t worry, he’s not actually getting a divorce (so I don’t feel bad about comedically obsessing over that line).

Lizzo. Need I say more? SHE JUST GOT HER FIRST TOP 10 SONG AND SHE DESERVES ALL THE LOVE!!! It’s not this song (“Truth Hurts” was on my June playlist), but “Scuse Me” is the self-love (in both senses of the phrase) song your summer needs.

Finally, “Ça fait du bien” by Antonin, remixed by Polo & Pan, was introduced to me by a lovely blogger, Libby Living Colorfully. Libby was introduced to me by the lovely Joslin. So, basically, thanks to Jos, I saw Libby’s instagram story with this song in it and fell in love.
