June Playlist and Goals

June 4, 2019

Oh hello there summer! You are here. And I am… aware of it. Listen, I try not to hate on summer, but, god damn, the humidity kills me every year. And it’s started particularly early this year, which sucked all the fun out of spring. Yes, spring is the superior of the two seasons. No, I will not take questions. This is a hill, do you see my headstone?

To try to keep me from the summer time sadness, I’ve jam packed my June schedule with concerts, a visit to see my family and apartment hunting! I left my job on the last day of May to get ready for a coding academy that I’ll be doing starting in July, and I am so excited to have nearly two months at my disposal to just relax and get ready.

With that in mind, I have a few fun goals for myself this month, all with the focus of helping me relax and set myself up for a good routine for when my classes start up.

  1. Sew at least 4 garment pieces. I have such a huge stash of fabric that I have officially cut myself off from buying more, as much as this lovely embroidered silk organza is tempting me. I want to start sewing up some of my stash and wearing the pieces! Half of my stash is lightweight fabric I bought on sale in the fall and winter, so it’s perfect for summer! (P.S.: More on why I love sewing will be coming in future posts)
  2. Post on Instagram at least 4 times a week. I’ve been slacking on my Insta for… years now. And I want to make it more of a habit to post regularly. Partly because I like sharing my life (obviously), and partly because I want to break myself from thinking that I can only share a specific, picture perfect, slice of my life online. That’s not true in the slightest, but it’s something that has kept me from posting on the fly in the past.
  3. Explore my hometown. Now that I have an abundance of free time, and the students are mostly gone, I want to take the time to explore where I live. It’s changed so much since I was in high school, and I want to explore the new cafes, bars and restaurants. I also wouldn’t mind finally going to some places that have been on my list for years, like Dats, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone.
  4. Get into a workout routine. I want to build a routine that I can easily do in an apartment building weight room, since where I’m looking in Indy doesn’t have a whole lot of gyms in the direct area. Doing yoga daily I think will be a lovely start, and building on it with Barre3 (one of my exercising loves) and regular runs will be a solid foundation for when I start my classes.

Whew! While it’s only four goals, there’s a fair amount of work that I’ll be putting into them all. I am excited to start tackling them! And, of course, I’ll need a killer playlist to be the soundtrack for the month. June is kind of a weird, lovely month in Indiana. Extremely fitting for Gemini season, amirite? It starts off with the tail end of spring, which is the best, but around the 15th it starts a rapid slip into humid, drink-the-air weather that’s standard for Midwest summers. I can feel everyone who lives in the Midwest rapidly nodding along.

So, what’s a gal to do with a month she loves and hates in equal measure?

Create a lovely, joy-bringing playlist to help celebrate the good. This month is Pride, so of course I have to King Princess. And Lizzo, because while she may not be a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she is playing Indy Pride on Saturday (yeehaw)! Also, Aly & AJ are necessary because their Sanctuary Tour is benefitting the Trevor Project. Bless.

You can listen to my playlist below! I’ll be adding more tracks throughout the month.

  • Hello There!

I’m Chelsea, half human, half disco ball, total joyful disaster. When I’m not walking my dog or sewing some fun clothes you can find me listening to records, exploring my city and doing my best to bring joy to my every day.
